Wave Scattering by Superluminal Spacetime Slab

چکیده
Spacetime media offers new opportunities for wave manipulation. Here we study superluminal slabs, and show that the amplitudes of the reflected waves are controlled by the velocity of the medium. In addition, the backward wave continuously scans from the specular to the collinear angle. A diagrammatic method is provided for insight into the deflection angles. A fundamental symmetry between suband superluminal scattering is derived from this diagrammatic description.

Tachyons and the Wheeler–Feynman absorber theory
The Proca equation with negative mass-square is studied in a refractive and absorptive spacetime. The generation of superluminal radiation fields by subluminal currents is discussed. The possibility of time-symmetric wave propagation is analysed in the context of the Wheeler–Feynman absorber theory; it is shown how advanced modes of the Proca field can be turned into retarded ones in a permeabl...

In this paper the effect of photonic band gap on the group velocity of reflected pulse from a dielectric slab doped with two-level or three-level atoms has been investigated. It is assumed that the slab is sandwiched between a uniform medium (like vacuum) and a one-dimensional photonic crystal. It is shown that the reflected pulse from the slab doped with two-level (three-level) atoms will be...
متن کاملNegative Group Velocity Superluminal Propagation in Optical Fibers Using Stimulated Brillouin Scattering
We demonstrated the superluminal propagation at negative group velocity using stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) in optical fibers. In the scheme, the Stokes wave is circulated back into the ring cavity for Brillouin lasing to enhance the peak loss. The experiment demonstrated the superluminal light propagation can be realized by increasing the input signal power. The largest time advancemen...
متن کاملAbnormal Wave Propagation in Passive Media
Abnormal velocities in passive structures such as one-dimensional (1-D) photonic crystals and a slab having a negative index of refraction are discussed. In the case of 1-D photonic crystal, the frequencyand time-domain experiments for waves tuned to the bandgap of the photonic crystal demonstrate a positive group velocity exceeding the speed of light in vacuum (superluminal). In the case of a ...
متن کاملBessel beam through a dielectric slab at oblique incidence: the case of total reflection
The oblique incidence of a Bessel beam on a dielectric slab with refractive index n1 surrounded by a medium of a refractive index n > n1 may be studied simply by expanding the Bessel beam into a set of plane waves forming the same angle θ0 with the axis of the beam. In the present paper we examine a Bessel beam that impinges at oblique incidence onto a layer in such a way that each plane-wave c...
